* Arrival update info at the bottom of this post. Although the clouds appeared ominous, the most rain we had in store proved to be a small, occasional sprinkle. After a 45 minute drive, we arrived at our destination of Coloma – site where James Marshall found gold on Monday, January 24, 1848. This lead to the Gold Rush, the greatest migration of mankind the world has ever known. First stop, Sutter Mill Monument. Loving Savior Lutheran School Trinity Lutheran Christian School Wagons Ho! (Working together to determine what to pack for the long journey west). Leathercraft – Making Poke Pouches, used by miners to hold their “poke”, AKA gold. Eureka! I’ve found it! After a walk to the top, we reached the James Marshall Monument. Before getting on the bus, we listed to a Park Ranger talk about Sutter’s Mill. An update will be posted with a more accurate time of our anticipated returns to Trinity and Loving Savior Lutheran Schools. A lot of 4th graders are anxious to get home after having a great 3 days experiencing the history and wonder of Northern California. * We left Kettleman City, CA at 6:45 pm after stopping for dinner. After a beautiful day yesterday, our plans for today include the Jelly Belly Factory, California State Capitol, Old Town Sacramento, California State Railroad Museum, and more. So much to do… so little time. Jelly Belly… hey, where are the samples? While at the State Capitol, each student was presented with a certificate from Assemblyman Curt Hagman. Me Likee… Mmm good! After 2 smooth departures, students & parents from both schools are nestled in their seats as they attempt to get a few moments rest before sunrise. Pictures will follow throughout the day. This is the day the Lord had made, let us rejoice and be glad in it! Happy group after lunch… we love the ride. Although the rain was coming down fairly hard as we approached the Bay area, the rain all but stopped as we crossed over the Oakland Bay Bridge as we entered San Francisco. Awesome!
