DAY THREE: Tour 111330954, Washington, D.C. 6-Day Tour
The morning began with a driving rain, but after breakfast we were blessed with clear skies and an appointment at the Pentagon….no pictures here. Two wonderful servicemen gave us a 1 hr tour of America’s military center. We stood at the spot where Flight 77 hit the building. Our next stop was Ford’s Theatre, the site of Abraham Lincoln’s assassination. Part of our visit was to a museum underneath the theatre. Very Cool. Mrs. Sampson was so excited to show us the art she loves. We got to see the only painting by Leonardo DaVinci in the Western Hemisphere. It is oil on wood. Ginevra’s face displays the delicate translucence of porcelain. Perhaps an engagement portrait. It is shown below: Weather stayed perfect for our long walk from the motorcoach to the Capitol. DAY TWO: Tour 111330954, Washington, D.C. 6-Day Tour
Because of change in plans Red Hill will be going to the Pentagon tomorrow. So……we took the opportunity to enjoy the bright sky and visit Lafayette Park and get a class pic outside the White House. The President is in Brazil so he wasn’t able to come out and vist. 🙂 Next stop will be a photo Op at the Washington Monument….then off to Mt. Vernon. Cool, but beautiful today. Although we were not able to go up to the top of WaMo yesterday……Red Hill did get to stop at the monument this morning to walk the grounds and get a photo op. You can tell what an incredible day we are having weather-wise. Our time with the Washington’s has been wonderful. Smiles everywhere! kids are awesome, asking excellent questions! Students and chaperones have lunch together with the president, or at least his memory, at the Mount Vernon cafe! Red Hill students listen attentively to our ‘monuments’ guide, John Lee, as he lectures about the Korean, Lincoln, Vietnam, Jefferson, and WWII monuments. DAY ONE: Red Hill Lutheran, Washington, D.C. 6-Day Tour
True story. The water exhibits have been turned off at the FDR Memorial. As we were enjoying room 3, the water exploded on and we were able to enjoy the full impact of the exhibit. God is good! After arriving safely at Dullas, and a great breakfast, Red Hill boys got in the bread line at the FDR Memorial Red Hill girls enjoy posing in front of the noisy water exhibit! What a treat! It was a cold and windy day….. Sounds like the start to a novel, but at the National Cathedral the wind was aggressive and cold, but didn’t cool our spirits! Our cathedral guide was wonderful….we learned so much! Red Hill students lay a wreath at the tomb of The Unknown Soldier! Another blessing. The weather in DC today was beyond. People who live here were giddy. We arrived at the Marine Memorial at dusk to witness a scene that will be in thousands of photos real soon. A “super” moon rising over the Capitol.
